Vim Tips Bot says to try this:

You can set your search to only be case-sensitive when the search string includes an uppercase character, use ':set smartcase'

Work on the list of files of the current directory by typing ':r!ls' (inserts the input from ls into your document)
Insert the date by typing :r!date from NORMAL mode.
