Supporting botsin.space
Hello! A bunch of people have asked for ways to support this instance. I am currently able to cover the expenses, so please do not worry about supporting if that's not an option for you! But if you'd like to help out, I've made two ways to do that.
First, I now have a Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/muffinista
Second, you can Paypal me here: https://www.paypal.me/muffinista
ps i've put together a spreadsheet of server expenses here https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15aiy_uWOYzXKqUAh_rBi8n2u2ikpUmKKYriZ1B2GNPo/edit#gid=0

re: Supporting botsin.space
@wowaname just to be clear, you snarked on me and then doubled-down, and never actually asked for the thing you want, but i have the attitude. anyway here you go have a nice day https://gist.github.com/muffinista/4548235b66f11574fcb5f120213ee08a

@muffinista this is real transparency, I hope that other instances will follow
@wowaname I agree that Google docs is not really the best option
What about using Ethercalc instead?
https://lite.framacalc.org/botsin.space-costs
(just delete all cells if you want to delete this spreadsheet)
Or https://cryptpad.fr/ although spreadsheets are still beta.
But still being so transparent is so great that I don't mind the Google docs that much.

@muffinista wow thanks for covering this, let us know if circumstances change, like if you get 100k new bots in a day 😜
Supporting botsin.space
@muffinista thanks for sharing all that info. I'd be curious to know a little more about your setup. What AWS and DO services you use and how you combine them.
Supporting botsin.space
@xuv the server itself runs on DO. Any uploaded content -- images, videos, etc -- is on AWS, as well as nightly db backups
Supporting botsin.space
@muffinista rad! Just chipped in. 😃
Supporting botsin.space
@ticky thanks very much!!!
Supporting botsin.space
@muffinista Out of curiosity, what's in AWS? S3 storage?
Supporting botsin.space
@mookie yeah, any uploaded files end up on s3, and also db backups

@mastohost,
It'd be fascinating to hear how the cost numbers in the spreadsheet above compare to your costs. (I understand if you don't have comparable numbers handy/don't want to share, though.)
Supporting botsin.space
There is no big secret on my accounts or something but I just can't separate the costs that well. Like a database or host server handles over 200 instances what is the cost of one of them that has 1000 users. I don't know.
It's really hard to put a price on it.
The math I do is averages per instance but it really is not an accurate number as most of the instances are on the cheapest plan. So, it's not comparable.
Supporting botsin.space
That makes sense. I kind of figured there wouldn't be any easy way to get at comparable numbers.
Supporting botsin.space
@muffinista any way to do this without a payment card? btc address?
Supporting botsin.space
@sneak there's no btc address or anything like that, but also no serious need to support the instance, we're doing fine

@muffinista
This degree of transparency about hosting costs is absolutely great. Thanks very much for that!
