Don't edit before you have something to edit.
This doesn't apply just to writing.

Many people try to write and edit at the same time - be creative and be critical.

Write a sentence, erase it, write it again, erase it and so it goes, never producing anything.

Bad strategy.

The initial aim is always just to create something you can improve later. Something, anything.

The first attempt will not be and doesn't need to be perfect.

First create, without any judgment. Just put rough ideas on paper. Create, don't edit.

Only once you have a substantial piece of work created, then put on your critic hat and improve.

First create, then edit.
Don't do both at the same time.
